Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities

BHBH welcomes everyone to the Big House Big Heart run on October 9, 2011!  Accomplished wheelchair athletes, first-time wheelchair runners, runners and walkers of all levels, those who need some assistance and those who are independent, are all welcome and we hope you will join us this year and annually for this great event.  Here is information you may find helpful.

Course Accessibility:

10K – 8am start; 5K – 9:10am start:   These courses travel through the city of Ann Arbor and they both have steep hills.  Please let us know no later than September 29, 2011 if you will need assistance with all or a portion of this course so that we may identify volunteers to run with you or assist you to complete the course: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I Mile – 10:30am start:  This course is accessible except for the entrance to the stadium tunnel which is steep.  You may let us know in advance if you will need assistance with all or a portion of this course:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Volunteers will be available both before the race and at the tunnel entrance and exit if you need assistance.

Accessible Parking:  A limited number of accessible parking places are available on the northeast corner of Keech and Main Streets, first come - first serve.  You must have a State of Michigan hang tag or license plate valid for accessible parking.

Additional accessible parking is still available at the Pioneer lot on the southwest corner of Main and Stadium.  Fee is $5. ALL THREE ENTRANCES TO PIONEER WILL BE OPEN FOR PARKING…including the entrances on Main Street, Stadium Blvd., and Seventh Street.

Accessible Restrooms:  Accessible restrooms at the north end of the Stadium will be available for persons with disabilities on the day of the race.  There are also accessible port-a-johns available along the 10K & 5K courses.

Accessible entrance to the stadium:  Gate 8 located at the corner of Main and Keech.

Accessible seating for observers:
Accessible seating for observers with disabilities is located on the field through the tunnel on the east side of the stadium (assistance may be required in the stadium tunnel as it is steep).  Volunteers will be available at the tunnel entrance to provide assistance if requested.

Seating for observers who use wheelchairs and/or motorized scooters is also available inside the stadium at the north end of the stadium.  Volunteers will be available to direct you once you are in the stadium.
